Steven Lee Presar, 72, of Centervill­e, OH, died on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton, following a brief illness. His brother was at his side.

Steve was born in Lima, Ohio, on April 24, 1949, the son of Milton (“Bud”) and Rosanna Barber Presar. He grew up in Wapakoneta, attending St. Joseph schools. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1968.

Following high school, Steve enrolled in the United States Air Force on January 17, 1969, serving his country until December 22, 1972. Rising to the rank of sergeant, Steve served as a computer operator for the Air Force at the Pentagon. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Small Arts Expert Marksmansh­ip Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Steve also attended George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, graduating in 1975.

Steve was the genealogy expert both for the Presar and Barber families. His research interests were widely varied, and included such subjects as Negro League Baseball, early profession­al football, canals, and the Punic Wars. Steve researched the documentat­ion needed for an Ohio Historical Marker commemorat­ing the site of the first NFL game (October 1920, during which the Dayton Triangles defeated the Columbus Panhandles, 14-0). Steve was also an avid walker, cyclist, and pickleball player. Steve was a member of the Vineyard Church, Dayton. A quiet man, Steve was known for his intelligen­ce, humility, and wit.

Steve is survived by his brother, Ric Presar, his aunt, Mary Lou Barber, and many loving cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tommy.

Steve’s cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to the Auglaize County Historical Society.
