Botkins Girls Down Perry

BOTKINS – The Botkins girls basketball team defeated visiting Perry 58-46 in their home season finale Monday evening.

Botkins improved to 12-8 with the decisive nonleague win. Perry fell to 9-10 after their third consecutiv­e loss. "We got off to an early lead and extended it little by little until the fourth quarter," said Trojan first-year head coach Tyler Carson.

Botkins ran out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter. They added to the margin with an 18-10 second stanza that built a 36-19 cushion at halftime.

Camdyn Paul scored all 13 of her points in the first half, including nine in the second period.

After intermissi­on, the Trojans inched further ahead 49-30 heading to the final quarter. Perry made the final look more respectabl­e with a 16-9 fourth period run.

Delana Pitts tallied a season-high 19 points to lead the victors. Malanie Maurer netted 17 markers as three Trojans hit double figures.

“The whole team played well, but those three made the most of their shot opportunit­ies,” the coach noted.

Trojans Lydia Dietz and Kennedi Doseck were recognized on Senior Night. "They have both been good leaders,” Carson said. Khalia Luster led Perry with 12 points.

Botkins canned 22 baskets, hitting 17 two-pointers and five treys. The Trojans canned nine of 11 foul shots (82 percent).

The Commodores connected on 19 baskets, 17 deuces and two triples. Perry converted six of 13 at the charity stripe (46 percent).

Botkins finished 8-3 at home. The third-place Trojan girls (7-4 SCL) play at rival Anna (11-8, 5-6 SCL) Thursday. They then visit Allen East (12-5) Saturday afternoon to finish the regular season.

Botkins was seeded fourth in the 14-team Div. IV Sidney sectionals and will play 10th seed Franklin Monroe (4-16). “I like our draw and we put ourselves in a position to get to the sectional finals,” said Carson.

If Botkins beats FM they will have a likely rematch with Mississina­wa Valley (16-3) in round two.

Ft. Loramie is the top seed, with Russia second.
