FEBRUARY 1, 1923

■ Frank Myers, a farmer residing about four miles west of town, reports that his flock of chickens has been increased by about 18 little chicks hatched under hands. January chicks arerather unusual and the first that have been reported.

■ Born to MM Louis Helping, 404 West Benton street, a ten-pound daughter, on January 30.

FEBRUARY 1, 1948

■ Johnny Von Gries, bowling alley manager and anchor man on the Auglaize Outfitters Major League team, got hot at the bowling alley Tuesday evening. He had an evening total of 654-his games totaling 220, 204, and 203. Walter Harrod, member of the Franklin and Menges team, likewise was hot. He rolled a 246 game.

■ William Niter revealed he has filed the petition for re-election as sheriff of Auglaize County, subject to the Democratic primary to be held in May. He has served as sheriff for several terms.

■ Eighteen weeks of perfect attendance at the elementary is credited in the third grade to: Charlene Addington, Billy Bailey, David Erb, Howard Kelley, Ralph Kaeck, Frieda Klima, Charles Lunz, Larry Marker, Freddie Pitthan, Wayne Quellhorst, Karen Schuler, Marjorie Schumann, Donald Wellman, and Larry Wright.

FEBRUARY 1, 1973

■ An undetermin­ed portion of the 25,000 pills and drugs taken from Herwig’s Drug Store, 102 W. Auglaize street, still remains missing. Possibly included in the amount are capsules of nitroglyce­rin and Papaverine, both prescribed for the treatment of heart patients. According to Police Chief Wolfe, the majority of the stolen drugs, about 90 per cent, were located at the home of one of the three subjects. All of the subjects, including a Wapakoneta youth and Mendon area juvenile, have been arrested.

■ A Design and Location hearing for the Blackhoof street bridge crossing the Auglaize River will be held in council chambers on March 21. All interested persons are invited to attend. If the design and location are approved, it could be possible for a contract letting as early as May with possible constructi­on starting in June, and with completion sometime in late winter if weather permits.
