WAPAKONETA - Rylie Jeannerett, a Wapakoneta High School senior and member of the Redskins Western Buckeye League championship bowling team signed a letter of intent to compete with Division I Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio) at a ceremony at the Astro Lanes bowling alley.

Jeannerett has been a four year starter for the Wapak girls bowing team and has been apart of two WBL championship squads. The first in her freshman year and the second came this last weekend when the girls won the tournament title with Jeanerett recording the third highest series (520) which earned her first team ALL-WBL honors.

Whether it’s on the bowling alley or standing on the pitcher’s mound in softball she likes the focus that pressure brings to her.

“I really love the pressure,” she said without hesitation when asked why she likes bowling. “Getting a seven pin to win a tournament or a strike in the 10th frame. It’s just something that I keep living for and I just love playing the next ball. It’s the same with softball or bowling. All eyes are on me and that draws me in and keeps me going.”

“She will definitely excel at the next level,” said head coach Steve Rostorfer. “She works very hard. She is very coachable and she’s always looking to improve. I’ve also always liked that she’s a team player and always gets along with her teammates.”

Her visit to Wright State left no doubt in her mind that she wanted to be a Raider.

“Being on campus really felt like home. It being so close to home really made we want to go there.” she commented. “The team has a really competitive edge. The coach is a really strong competitor and so am I so it really messes with me well.”

She comes from a bowling family with her Dad, Dave Jeannerett, a long time bowler, who turned in his bowling shoes for driving gloves when it came time to visit different schools.

“This decision was completely up to Riley,” he said. “I was just the driver. I took her wherever she wanted to go and visited where she wanted to visit. When we were with coaches I told them, ‘Don’t talk to me. She’s the one making the decision.’, although I do agree with where she decided to go.”

Mom too had faith in her daughter’s decision making ability.

“She’s a great kid and very focused on what she wants to do,” said Laurie Jeannerett. “She knows what her end goal is and she’s going to achieve it. Being a bowling family, seeing her bowl at this level is a dream come true for us.”
