Bless Your Heart!

- By Bethany Parsons

Hey y’all! I want to begin by saying that I hope the time change has not kicked your rear like it has mine. Callie and I both have been on the struggle bus this week! That’s ok though, it is the weekend and Callie is on Spring Break next week…enter some later mornings than usual, no homework, and memory making. That’s my article today. Be a memory maker. My mom tells me all the time that I am the memory maker in the family. I take too many pictures, I do silly things for holidays, and I show up.

If you happened to have read this week’s “Keep Your Fork” article, I shared a little about my dad. Not a lot, but enough for you to hopefully get the picture that my dad was an amazing man that did anything and everything he could to help me be better. A better ball player, a better runner, a better shot-putter, and an all around better human. Because of those efforts, a large portion of my memories contain my parents. That’s what I want for Callie too! Yes, it does get difficult at times when Callie has activities here and Adam is 2 states away and can’t pop in for a Tuesday night Softball game or a Thursday night bread baking competition. What she doesn’t always know, is that he gets to watch her because of some amazing technology called Facetime. He helps us create things when he comes home for the weekend, or when we haul our arts and crafts to Ohio, or when we are in Walmart complaining about how to make something work. He is there.

Every Spring Break that I can remember with Callie has started out the same way. Friday night pizza, Saturday shopping for new tennis shoes and shorts, and a week of playing with her friends and sleepovers. We don’t typically go all out for Spring Break. It’s a chance for us to re-energize ourselves to make it through the last 9-weeks of the school year. A time of year that become consumed with projects, awards, ball games, more ball games, and this year will be filled with regional and state 4-H competitions for her poster, biscuits, and demonstrations.

It doesn’t matter how you make memories, just make them! The memories you make may be for your children, grandchildren, parents, other family members, or even for yourself. I always tell Callie that in life, everything you own or physically possess could be gone in the blink of an eye. The things that are housed in your mind; your knowledge, your memories, your values… those are yours forever.

So as the weekend begins, eat the extra scoop of ice cream. Have the pie and the cake. Splash in muddy puddles. Let the dishes sit overnight. Order take out. Stay up watching the movie you’ve been wanting to watch or start a new Netflix series. Whatever you decide to do, make it worth remembering. Our kids are only little once, and the story that they write in their little minds about their childhood shape the entirety of their youth. Make sure you do your part to make their story worth sharing, and try your very best to be a positive in every chapter.

And bless your heart, don’t forget your camera!! If there is something you want to share with or you have a topic idea, I look forward to hearing from y'all! feel free to email me at blessyourheart.wdn@outlookl.com.
