Farmington Cardinal Car Classic

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — The 13th annual Cardinal Car Classic had a rainy start Saturday with several downpours throughout the morning but the weather didn’t dampen everyone’s spirits.

Participation was down because of the weather, with 37 vehicles registered for the Car Classic, held in the Farmington High School parking lot along Main Street in Farmington.

“I was very pleased with the amount of cars we had,” said Michelle Beeks, who heads up the show each year on behalf of Farmington School District. “Even when we had downpours they stayed. It was kinda nice being a smaller group. It was easy to talk to everyone and everyone had a good time.”

Tommy Easterling of Farmington won Best of Show and People’s Choice with his 1934 Ford 3 Window Coupe. Brad Edge of Fayetteville won Best Import with his 1984 Porsche 944. The Car Classic always gives out awards to the Top 50 vehicles and this year, with only 37 on site, all participants received a trophy.

Beeks said several participants showed up for the first time this year and she assured them Saturday’s weather was not the norm. Typically, weather for the Cardinal Car Classic is sunny and hot. Usually, 75-100 vehicles register for the event.

The Cardinal Car Classic is used as a fundraiser for school groups. The high school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America sponsored the show. Farmington High cheer squad sold T- shirts and Project Graduation 2017 sold concessions.
