Church Welcomes Gideon Reps

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Carney, Gideons’ representatives, were welcomed Sunday, by members of Sugar Hill Church. Mr. Carney gave a very interesting and informative talk, telling of the Gideons’ world-wide mission providing Bibles to all. It is amazing, this huge undertaking of providing the Word to millions who might not otherwise have a Bible. He gave some examples of results from the program, with the promise of Isiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that it goeth forth out of my mouth, it shall not return unto me void.” We can be a part of this program, by sending Bibles for “recognitions,” “congratulations,” “in memory of,” etc. Their local address is “The Gideons International, P.O. Box 641, Prairie Grove, AR 72753.

Has this been the wettest May on record, yet no real rainfall? Only sprinkles, light showers, fog, wet enough for no hay cutting, but 6-inches below normal rainfall. I don’t remember a May with not one bale of hay reaped.

Some humor — After a convention meeting, three men rented a hotel suite on the 75th floor, but they were shocked to find the hotel elevators broken and they’d have to climb the stairs to their room.

“I know how to break the monotony,” said Bill. “I’ll tell jokes for 25 flights, Jim can sing songs for 25, and Scott can tell sad stories the last 25.

As they started, Bill told his first joke. At the 26th floor, Jim began to sing. At the 51st floor, Scott said, ” I will tell my saddest story first. Once there was a man who left the room key in his car.”

Happy birthday to Josh Pitts, Clint Neff, David Jones, James Hodge, Marty Spears, Chris Borchardt, Sam Hannah, Betty Thompson, Robin Moore, Bobby Russell, Daniel Beatty, Kenneth Myers.
