Making Hay While The Sun Is Out

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Instead of thunder and the sound of raindrops hitting the windows, another, very welcome, sound this week, is the roar of machinery, as the farmers, about a month later than usual, are busy “making hay while the sun shines.” While this crop is past its prime, there still is time for another cutting or two, depending on the weather.

The flowers have been exceptionally showy this year, but most didn’t last long, since it was so wet. The hydrangeas are now really putting on a “show,” and promise to last longer. I have an unusual bush that instead of the ballshaped bunch of blooms, is almost flat, with a cluster of small seeds, surrounded by purple flowers like those on the regular bush. It is different and beautiful.

This Sunday, June 19, is Father’s Day, 106 years after it was first celebrated June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Wash. So for all the fathers, and in memory of those gone on, a tribute: “Dad” When you need some cheering up, Dad is gentle.

When you need a helping hand, Dad is strong.

When you need a little push to get you going

A Dad is great at urging you along.

When you need to talk, Dad is understanding

Sure to listen, really care.

When you need a lift, Dad is warm and loving. When you need a friend, A Dad is always there. anon.
