Two University of Arkansas students from Farmington and two from Prairie Grove were inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at the U of A, joining a long line of distinguished graduates dating nationally back to 1776 and at the U of A to 1932. All four are students in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Rachel Falknor from Farmington is a social work major and the daughter of Douglas and Lisa Falknor.

Allysa Swearingen from Farmington is a biology major and the daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth Swearingen.

Emily Cole from Prairie Grove is an English major and the daughter of Bobby and Cherokee Cole.

Will Pohlman from Prairie Grove is a junior chemistry major and the son of Fred and Tami Pohlman. Pohlman is one of nine outstanding U of A juniors with a perfect 4.0 grade point average to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Most students who qualify for Phi Beta Kappa have graduated in the top 10 percent of their class and majored in one of the liberal arts and sciences, enhanced by a breadth of coursework.

Alicia Lankford from Lincoln High School has been chosen to attend the 27th annual National Student Leadership Congress in Washington, D.C. The Council for Opportunity in Education will hold the Congress June 11-16. Reese is among 150 rising high school juniors and seniors selected from Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search programs to attend the Congress.

Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search are two of seven federally-funded college access and success programs serving almost a million students in the U.S. and its territories.

Lankford will take part in a Mock Congress, with the prime focus of developing service-oriented leaders and to empower students to advocate for educational issues that affect their communities and the nation.

This year, students will be hosted at Georgetown University. The six-day residential program at the university will focus on its on-going commitment to social justice and college access, as well as launch a comprehensive institutional diversity and equity initiative, which includes scholarships and supportive services for students.

Students will take cultural trips to D.C. monuments and museums and also meet members of Congress or their staff. —
