Take A Walk Or Run With Your Dog

- By Lynn Kutter ENTERPRISE-LEADER

Dogs have taken over Prairie Grove’s aquatic center and now they are headed to the park.

Friends of Prairie Grove Pound will sponsor a Family Dog Walk & Run at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park.

The fundraiser will be 2-5 p.m. Oct. 23, beginning at the park’s amphitheater. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and dogs must be registered to participate. Cost is $10 for first dog and $5 per dog after that. Proceeds will benefit Prairie Grove Pound.

The afternoon will include many fun activities, according to Sharon Glover with Friends of Prairie Grove Pound.

The band Southbound will entertain participants and guests and students with Prairie Grove High School EAST Lab will host kids’ games and face painting.

A dog costume contest also will be held as part of the Dog Walk & Run.

The walk will begin about 2:30 p.m. and follow the one-mile walking trail through the state park. A one-mile run will start after the walk. The run can be with or without dogs.

The Friends’ organization has had great success with its other fundraisers. More than 140 dogs came to the fourth annual Soggy Doggy Pool Party in August and the organization raised about $4,000. It made another $12,000 at its Junk Yard Dogs Junk Fest over Labor Day weekend.

“We’re really hoping the fun walk/fun run will grow along the lines of the Soggy Doggy Pool Party,” Glover said.

Refreshments will be available and many door prizes, including $25 and $50 gift cards, will be given out to dogs during drawings throughout the afternoon.
