Josephine L. Clark

Josephine “Jo,” L. Clark, 82, of Prairie Grove, Ark., passed away Nov. 21, 2016, at Prairie Grove Health & Rehab. She was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Lowell, Ark., the daughter of Luther Vern and Zelvia Stephens Drymon.

She was a member of the Hickory Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first and second husbands, George Thomas and Richard Clark; and one grandchild, Brian Curtis Smith Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Georget te Madewell of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Brenda Smith and husband Brian of Prairie Grove; one sister, Joyce Anderson and husband Solomon of Siloam Springs; six grandchild­ren; seven great- grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at Farmington Cemetery.

Ernest J. Cole

Ernest J. Cole, 88, a resident of Springdale, Ark., passed away Nov. 24, 2016, at the Cane Hill residence in Cane Hill, Ark. He was born April 19, 1928, in Illinois, the son of Ernest Olen and Mary M. Casey Cole.

Ernest served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Cole; and one sister, Maxine.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Cole; one son, Steven Cole and wife Christina of Springdale; one daughter, Jodi Redfeather and husband Stephen Roach II of Morrow, Ark.; six grandchild­ren, Taylor, Kyle, Ryan, Haley, Sara and Tara.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the Farmington United Methodist Church.

Patricia Maxine Bush Cross

Patricia Maxine Bush Cross, 76, Jenks, Okla., and former resident of Fort Smith, passed away Nov. 25, 2016, in Tulsa, Okla. She was born Oct. 4, 1940, at Fayettevil­le, Ark., the daughter of Paul Carpenter and Viota Maxine Arrington Bush.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, and the University of Arkansas with a Masters Degree in Special Education. She taught school in the Fort Smith Public School System for 18 years and retired from Northside High School in Fort Smith after 7 years as a Special Education Teacher. She was a member of the Council for Exceptiona­l Children, Phi Delta Kappa Profession­al Education Organizati­on, Beta Sigma Phi Society, Phi Beta Kappa Society, Order of the Eastern Star and Arkansas Retired Teachers Associatio­n. She was a member of the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith.

She was a loving mother, grandmothe­r, sister and aunt.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney Craig Cross and wife Kathy Lynn of Tulsa, Okla., and Douglas Brent Cross of Denver, Colo.; one brother, William Eugene Bush and wife June of Fayettevil­le; four grandchild­ren, Cayman Arrington Cross of Tulsa, Christophe­r Michael Cross of San Diego, Calif., William Hunter Cross and John Tracy Cross both of Redondo Beach, Calif.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec 5, 2016, at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 3900 Grand Ave., Fort Smith, Ark. Interment will be at the Bethesda Cemetery near Morrow, Ark. Graveside services will not be held.

Pallbearer­s will be Greg Cross, Bailey Coleman, Neal Coleman, Lewis Farrar, Mike Corley, and Greg Allison.

Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Patricia’s name.

Debbie Johnson

Debbie Jo Kidd Johnson, 58, of Lincoln, Ark., passed away Nov. 21, 2016, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayettevil­le, Ark. She was born Nov. 2, 1958, in Prairie Grove, Ark., the daughter of Joe Henry and Jane Bunnell Kidd.

She enjoyed working with her patients as a home health caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Johnson; six children, Michele Johnson and husband Larry of Cane Hill, Ark., Michael Dersam II and wife Donna of Prairie Grove, Jeramy Joe Dersam of Fayettevil­le, Brandy Bernice Dersam and fiancé Chris Hale of Elkins, Ark., James Adam Eugene Dersam of Lincoln and Cory Jerome Dersam and wife Krista of Prairie Grove; nine grandchild­ren, Michael Dersam III, Tyler and Taylor Copher, Noah and Skyelar Hale, Corbyn, Kinsley, Kashley, Serenity, Aiden and Trynton Dersam.

Funeral service was held at 2 p. m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove with burial in Cane Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearer­s were Larry Johnson, Lance Lee, Michael Dersam II, Jeramy Dersam, Freddy Hollingswo­rth and Chris Hale.

Kenneth Miles Jr.

Kenneth G. Miles Jr., 75, of Arkadelphi­a, Ark., passed away due to renal cancer on Nov. 25, 2016, at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was born on Aug. 28, 1941, to Kenneth and Rea Marceil (Clay) Miles of Enid, Okla.

He graduated from Enid High School in 1959 and Oklahoma Baptist University in 1963. He also attended Southweste­rn Baptist Theologica­l Seminary for two years. He dedicated his life in service to the Lord as a Minister of Music, Youth and Education in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. He was also a Residence Hall Director and Assistant to the Dean of Students at Ouachita Baptist University from 1985 to 2009.

He was a caring father and husband who filled our lives with laughter, love and music. He was an avid NFL football fan—his favorite team being the Dallas Cowboys. He was admired for the way he ministered to the lives of many youth, college students, and adults during his many years of church and student ministry. He received the Arkansas State Humanitari­an Award in 1979 for his work directing a handbell choir for adults with disabiliti­es.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Caro- lyn Zuniga; and brother, David Miles.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betsy Miles and their son, Johnathan; daughters, Shelli (Troy) Conrad of Farmington, Ark., SuLyn (Darryl) Wine of Warrior, Ala., and Kayla (Jeff) Abernathy of Bentonvill­e, Ark.; sisters, Jan Sears of Cordell, Okla., Rea (Phil) Pounds of Pflugervil­le, Texas, and Darla ( Mark) Sears of Pocola, Okla.; 10 grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Arkadelphi­a.

Garland E. Smith

Garland Eugene Smith, 77, of Lincoln, Ark., passed away Nov. 21, 2016, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born Feb. 14, 1939, in Summers, Ark., the third child of William Fred and Elsie Whitely Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; two sons, Michael Smith of Arizona and Randy and Gina Smith of Texas; grandchild­ren, Donovan Smith of Texas, Megan Smith of the United Kingdom and Alex Smith of Ohio; his brothers and sisters, Howard and Ruby Smith of Fayettevil­le, Ark., JoAnne and Carl Reeves of Prairie Grove, Ark., Barbara Jean and Jim McClain also of Prairie Grove, Linda Sue Henderson of Vallejo, Calif., and Donna Faye and Howard Umberson of Destin, Fla.

Funeral service was held Wednesday Nov. 23, 2016, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, with burial in Beaty Cemetery.
