Farmington Leads In ACE Standings
Farmington High School’s Academic Competition in Education team is in first place going into the third round of matches for the 2016-17 season.
ACE is an academic competition involving nine Northwest Arkansas schools. Teams accumulate points over the season and the seven teams with the most points will advance to the semi-final and championship rounds on Feb. 23 at Bentonville West High School.
Farmington has scored the most points for the first two matches, a total of 114 points.
Farmington scored 63 points in its first match on Dec. 6, 2016, and scored another 51 points in a match last week in Bentonville against Greenland and Bentonville.
Gravette is second with 106 points and Bentonville High School is third with 97 points. Prairie Grove is in fifth place with 74 points for its first two matches.
The third and final regular season match will be Feb. 1 at Lifeway Christian.
The ACE program is different from Quiz Bowl in that teams are given specific books and chapters to study in preparing for their matches. Subjects in each match include include physics, chemistry, Shakespeare, math, biology, world history, art history, American government and literature.
Three schools compete in each match. For most questions, each team is given 15 seconds and four tries to give a correct answer. When time runs out, the opposing teams can buzz in to give a correct answer and score.
Other schools participating this year are Bentonville West, Lifeway Christian, Shiloh Christian and Siloam Springs.
