Count Your Blessings, One By One

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

They say the groundhog saw his shadow everywhere except in our area. So far, the old adage is holding, the fact that he didn’t see his shadow means that we are to have six weeks of spring like weather, and we are now into the 4th week. The crocuses (nothing unusual) are blooming and the jonquil greenery is showing. Of course, the dandelions have bloomed all winter. I could enjoy their beauty if only they didn’t turn into those ugly fuzzy balls.

We are getting some of the promised rain. I know we are short on deep moisture, but we have had enough rain to keep things growing with ( thankfully) no disasters such as wild fires, floods, land slides and tornadoes in our area.

As in one of my favorite “keepers,” we should stop and —

Count our blessings instead of our crosses,

Count our gains instead of our losses,

Count our joys instead of our woes,

Count our friends instead of our foes,

Count our smiles instead of our tears,

Count our courage instead of our fears,

Count our kind deeds instead of our means,

Count our full years instead of our lean,

Count our health instead of our wealth,

Count on God instead of our self.

An old hymn concludes: “Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.”

We received around one inch of slow falling, soaking rain, and we’re promised more for next Monday, again.

Happy birthday greetings to Becky Griscom, Keith Lipford, Betty Pharr, Nicky Morris, Robert Curtsinger, Gary Cheatham, Jackson Ford, Lois Guess, and special greetings to three who have a choice as to when to celebrate, February 28, or March 1, because their date is February 29, every four years, Lois Uselton, Addison Roy and Brenna Hutchens.

Happy anniversary to George and Lorene Schooler.

Happy years, all!
