Growing In Abilities Through FFA

- By Mason Walker

Hello, my name is Mason Walker, a 17- year- old member of Prairie Grove FFA. Ever since I was little, I’ve been involved in agriculture. Both my grandfather and my father run a cow-calf operation and raise crops such as corn, soybeans, and wheat at our ranch in the northwest corner of Arkansas.

Growing up I’ve had a profound love for the agriculture industry, as well as the organizations involved in simultaneously defending and growing our beloved industry. I’ve been blessed over my career of showing cattle across the country, from Harrisburg, Pa., to Fort Worth, Texas, and even to Denver, Colo. I have been able to accomplish huge successes, creditable to my family and to the FFA Organization for giving me the information and opportunities to pursue my hobby.

In addition to the successes I’ve seen in the showing, I’ve been just as fortunate in the Reasons room, having the opportunity to partake in the livestock judging competition offered by the FFA through my school’s ag program, where I have been able to grow in several aspects of my life, such as my public speaking capabilities, confidence, and my ability to go out in the community and make a difference, as well as the occasional victory of winning a contest. FFA has been such a huge blessing to me, and I can’t express how thankful I am for the program and its supporters.
