Rain Comes; Spared Tornadoes

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

We were blessed with another inch of rain Monday night, and mercifully spared the tornados. Our heart goes out to those who lost so much. Hopefully they at least had insurance.

Our six weeks of “fair weather” are now over, since the ground hog didn’t see his shadow in this area. But watch out for the next few weeks. Spring starts on Monday, March 20, and it has been considered tornado season here.

We’re also into the gardening fever season as some plant their potatoes on St. Patrick’s Day. Formerly called just Irish potatoes, now there are Kenebec, Red Pontiac, Russet, Yukon Gold, Norland ( take your pick) and there is even a “blue potato.” Blue hash browns, blue chips, and blue mashed potatoes? Yuk!

Now a different subject. Four people were on a plane, the pilot, a computer technician, a pastor and a Boy Scout. The plane suddenly had engine trouble, and the passengers reached for their parachutes. However, they found there were only three parachutes on board.

The pilot grabbed one and said,” I am the most important man on this plane. I must go down and report this accident.” He jumped out.

The computer tech said, “I am the smartest man on this plane. I’m working on a project that will be of benefit to all mankind.” He grabbed a pack and jumped.

The pastor said, ” Son, you go ahead and use the last parachute. I’m an old man and I’ve lived a good, long life and I’m ready to die. You go ahead aand jump.”

The Boy Scout said, “Sir, that won’t be necessary. We can both jump, because the smartest man on the plane just jumped out with my backpack.”

Happy birthday to Jerry Bradley, Carol Snarr, Paula Cox, Tim Bailey, Justin Spear, Hudson Cheatham.

Happy anniversary to Al and Sue Sanders. Happy years, all! Remember recycling Monday March 20th.
