Time For Another 2nd Saturday Trades Day

- By Lynn Kutter

PRAIRIE GROVE — The weather didn’t cooperate for the first 2nd Saturday Trades Day in Prairie Grove so organizers are hoping for a sunny, spring-like day for the second event.

Prairie Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and a 2nd Saturday Trades Day steering committee sponsor the monthly events designed to bring the community together and increase visitors to Prairie Grove. The event is meant to bring back a tradition in Prairie Grove from many years ago.

The next 2nd Saturday Trades Day will be Saturday (April 8) and will feature live music, crafts, food and shopping.

Audra Bailey, steering committee chairwoman, said the response from local merchants and the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We are so excited to help coordinate some of the wonderful activities going on in our little community,” Bailey said by email. “We are particularly excited about Groovin’ in the Grove displaying the musical talent from this region. We look forward to seeing people from all over the area.”

The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the high school’s EAST program in the Chamber building on Buchanan.

The breakfast will be available 7-10 a.m.

Groovin’ in the Grove will go on in Mock Park starting at 11: 30 a.m. This is a jam session and musicians are invited to bring their instruments and play in the treefilled park next to Prairie Grove Public Library.

Another session of live local music will go on from noon to 2 p.m. at Fat Rolls Bakery.

Friends of Prairie Grove Library will have a Hop into Spring Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mock Park. The free carnival will include games, snacks and crafts.

Prairie Grove Town Center will be the site for a Kids’ Flea Market from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and children in grades kindergarten through eighth are invited to set up their own vendor booths in the building. Cost is $15 for a booth.

Other activities for the day are a baked potato bar sponsored by Prairie Grove Cub Scouts from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p. m. in the Chamber building and a children’s activity to make a rain stick at The Creative Fix ( fee involved).

Stores will be open downtown and throughout Prairie Grove, with some businesses planning a spring open house.
