Washington County Enterprise-Leader

Honoring Many Volunteers

- MARIE ROY

Well, April is here, one quarter of 2017 is past, and this has been one very beautiful spring. Now, with more rain, red buds and lilacs are showing up, calves cavorting around the pastures, birds singing, and oh, yes, that grass is growing! So, enjoy, and thank our Creator who makes the beauty, and our other daily blessings.

Back to April, it is landscape month, decorating, lawn and garden, keep America beautiful, kite, child abuse prevention, straw hat, physical wellness, injury prevention, stress awareness, cancer control, car care, poetry, pecan, couple appreciation, mathematics education, humor, smile, and finally, National Volunteer month. So, the following is a tribute to those special people:

Valuable is the work you do,

Outstanding is how you always come through,

Loyal, sincere, and full of good cheer,

Untiring in your efforts throughout the year,

Notable are the contributions you make,

Trustworthy in every project you take,

Eager to reach, your every goal,

Effective in the way you fulfill your role,

Ready with a smile like a shining star,

Special and wonderful, that’s what you are.

Many years ago, our Senior Center was practically run by volunteers, with the director and bus driver on the payroll. The present building was built with a $40,00.0 grant, donations and VOLUNTEERS.

Years later, the kitchen was built, making more help necessary, with a paid staff. Volunteers still are a major help, especially with the fundraisers, which are necessary to help keep the Center open. Anyone who has some free time and loves to serve your fellow man, call Sue at 824-3861. You will also enjoy the fellowship.

Happy birthday to Bill Griscom, Phyllis Reed, Ken Power, Janet Harper, Lynnwood Holloway, Dale Bailey, Emily Pitts, Don Mounce.

Happy anniversary to Eugene and Elaine Olszewski, David and Sherry Mark.

Remember recycling next Monday, April 10.
