Ups And Downs For Lady Cardinals
FARMINGTON — The Lady Cardinals softball squad experienced ups and downs prior to spring break.
Farmington 9, Greenwood 6
The Lady Cardinals posted a 9-6 win March 14, on the road at Greenwood in the 5A/6A District. Anna Bennett belted a home run for the Lady Cardinals, her second of the season. Shyanna Holmes earned the win in the circle.
Farmington 5, Gravette 4 (8 innings)
With the game knotted in a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning, Paige Anderson’s walk-off lifted Farmington to a 5-4 victory over Gravette. The Lady Cardinals won the March 10 game with a classic finish. The game was tied at four with the Lady Cardinals batting in the bottom of the eighth when Anderson drove in the winning run. Kaylee Purifoy scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson for the game-winner.
Farmington trailed 3-2 in the sixth, and 4-3 in the seventh but rallied each time to tie the score. Bailey Elmore homered and drove in two runs for Gravette.
The Lady Cardinals moved in front during the first inning when Alyssa Reed drove in a run with a double. Gravette took a lead, but in the bottom of the seventh inning, Farmington tied the contest at 4- all. With one out, Brandy Wallace drove in a run when she homered. Wallace and Anderson each had 2 RBIs to lead the Lady Cardinals.
Holmes earned the win for the Lady Cardinals, pitching eight innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, and striking out three. Cally Kildow took the loss for Gravette. She pitched seven and two-thirds innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, and striking out six.
Bentonville West 5, Farmington 4
On March 9, the Farmington girls traveled to Bentonville West. The Farmington Lady Cardinals took an early lead, which they held until late in a 5-4 defeat. Farmington took a lead in the first inning, scoring on an error and five hits. Wallace and Carley Antwine had two hits apiece for the Lady Cardinals. Bentonville West overcame a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning when Emily Roberson doubled off of Holmes, driving in three runs. Bentonville West had five hits in the game led by Hallie Wacaser and Emily Roberson.
