Students Honored For Achievemen­ts

PRAIRIE GROVE — Several academic student groups were recognized for their outstandin­g accomplish­ments at the April 17 Prairie Grove School Board meeting.

Members of the Academic Competitio­n in Education team were recognized for their season: Micah Duncan, Matthew Haley, Spencer Parnell, Morrigan Gaines, Riley Masters, Avery Roton, Tim Frerking, Tia Sisemore and Carter McKenzie.

Many of the ACE team members also compete on the high school’s Quiz Bowl team. The students gave up more than 100 hours of their time to participat­e in practices and matches. They placed fourth at the regional tournament. Quiz Bowl members are Micah Duncan, Matthew Haley, Spencer Parnell, Avery Roton, Tim Frerking, Riley Masters, Morrigan Gaines, Faith Strahan, Nathaniel Wynn, Tia Sisemore, Jenna Hodges and Eli Mertz.

ACTM is a math competitio­n and the following students competed in the contest: Emily Hill, Alisan Alexander, Riley Masters, James Mayers, Faith Strahan, Matthew Haley, Tim Frerking. Mayers and Strahan placed in the top 25 in the region for statistics and Masters placed in the top 10 for pre-calculus and will participat­e in the state contest April 22.

Robotics team members are Hunter Lopez, Connor Sharp, Jackson Guthrie, Austin Christen, Trinity Maddan, Avery Burgess, Mila Karp, Dalton Hudgens, Will Russell, Marcelo Maldonado, Daniel Thacker, Charlie Nunn, Peter Skotch.

The middle school’s Odyssey of the Mind team earned first place in the regional tournament and third place in the state competitio­n. Members are Autumn Spatz, Connor Hubbs, Cole Edmiston, Ashley Howard, Zoe Hubbs, Breann Chambliss, Maddi Ruiz.

The junior high Quiz Bowl team earned second place in regionals and third place in the state. Member Carter McKenzie received the High Point Player award and was named to the All Star Team. (Names were not available)

The middle school Chess Club meets weekly to practice strategies and completed in local tournament­s in Springdale. Eight qualified to go to finals on April 29. Members include Caleb Duncan, Robert Van Berger, Abigail Dorey, Maddox Ogle, Wade Davenport, Ethan Beason, Jackson Guthrie, Nick Yell, Kyle Bennett, Mila Karp.

Winners for the National History Day competitio­n on the state level were junior individual documentar­y: second place, Hunter McLemore-Lopez, third place, Alexis Light; junior individual exhibit: third place, Courtney Remson; junior historical paper: second place, Ella Nations, fourth place, Kennedy Conrad; junior individual performanc­e: fifth place, Landin Madewell; junior group performanc­e: fifth place, Cade Grant, Blake Gardner, C.J. Chambers, Cade Walker; junior individual website: second place, Chloe Van Sickel; junior group website: first place, Peter Erdman and Ian Howerton; second place, Makinsey Parnell and Kelsey Pickett.

Special awards for National History Day were given to Chloe Van Sickel for Best World History Project award; Makinsey Parnell and Kelsey Pickett for Best U.S. History Project award; Peter Erdman and Ian Howerton for Best Arkansas History Project award.

Faith Strahan won first place in the senior historical paper category.
