Lil Mister, Lil Miss Contest Guidelines

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — Three junior cowboys are competing for the title of Lincoln Riding Club Lil Mister, and two junior cowgirls are competing for the Lil Miss crown.

In the running for Lil Mister are: Jackson Hutchinson, Ethan Parker, and Karson Sampley. Contending for Lil Miss are: Bella Cate Keenen and Emmalee Parker.

The LRC Royalty committee tries to structure the competition so candidates for Lil Mister and Lil Miss stand to gain from the experience in hope that they’ll come away with knowledge of rodeo and a better understanding of rodeo pageants to help further their careers.

The Lil Mister and Lil Miss contest is open to ages 3-7, and the final application deadline was May 1. During the contest each contestant will model a “V” formation while current LRC royalty reads a short bio based on their application. At the end of their bio they will approach the current LRC Royalty, and are then asked 3-5 questions.

They will be judged on several factors: appearance, expected to be clean, well dressed, in appropriate western attire, standing up straight, facing the audience, not trying to hide; appearing confident, ready to tackle the task at hand; answering questions: not shy, speaking clearly and confidently, making eye contact with the audience, refraining from looking at floor when talking; and personality coming through, smiling, talking easily, projecting confidence, not afraid to interact with others.

Among the requirements, each contestant had to sell 25 raffle tickets at $1 each and the winners are required to lead the stick horse grand entry nightly during the Lincoln Rodeo May 18-20. All contestants are encouraged to ride in the stick horse grand entry each night of the rodeo.

Contestants at all levels are expected to maintain sportsmanship before, during and after the contest and throughout the rodeo.
