Students Compete In Special Olympics Events

Twelve students from Ledbetter Intermedia­te and Lynch Middle Schools in Farmington participat­ed in the Area 3 Special Olympics Track Event this spring in Fayettevil­le.

The students competed in running, throwing, and jumping events. Ledbetter also hosted a “parade of champions” for the athletes on the day before the April 8 competitio­n. Students made banners and signs to show their support and the high school’s Cardinal mascots showed up for the fun and to cheer on the athletes.

The Ledbetter/Lynch team had five students who qualified for the state level Special Olympics in Little Rock on May 25-27. Those students are Kivwren Tate, Caleb Stewart, Grace Allen, Johnny Dodson, Luke Shaw. They will compete in running and throwing events.

Members of the Ledbetter/ Lynch team included coaches Kim Taylor, Meredith Purifoy, Lynley Ruble and Madison Ward. Athletes were sixth-graders Caleb Stewart, Grace Allen, Lacy Gragg; fifth-graders Victor Pacheco, April Greenlee, Brooklynn Holloway, Kivwren Tate; fourth-graders Johnny Dodson, Tessa Thompson, Davis Barron, Luke Shaw and Marty Stidum.
