Tiger Assistant Impresses Coach
PRAIRIE GROVE — David Anderson was working on a degree in Sports Management at the University of Arkansas when he received an email that changed his life.
He didn’t need a long time to decide.
Upon learning head baseball coach Chris Mileham was looking for a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Prairie Grove, Anderson, 19, a native of Waco, Texas, immediately expressed his interest and got the job. That was during the first semester of Anderson’s junior year at the U of A in 2014-2015.
Anderson, who is single, works as a Para-Professional and comes from an athletic background.
“I’m blessed to have three state titles in high school, two in football and one in baseball,” Anderson said.
He attended Reicher Catholic School and also competed in power-lifting.
Anderson impressed Mileham while interviewing for another job closer to his hometown in Waco. During a recent awards banquet for the Tiger baseball team, Mileham recalled a similar experience as a young applicant and thought he might get a text revealing a short interview, but Anderson did better than expected and forged a camaraderie of sorts with those who conducted the interview.
“An hour-and-45-minutes later I get a call and he’s eating steak with the superintendent and football coach,” Mileham said.
Anderson feels embraced by the Prairie Grove community.
“The community has been great to me, especially being my first job,” Anderson said. “The baseball moms and dads they help out, get me anything I need.”
