Reunion Slated Sunday

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

It looks like there will be no hydrangea blossoms this year. Because of the freeze, the older growth didn’t live, thus no flowers, but the new growth is lush and beautiful, promising for full blooming next season, as they were last year.

This is a disappointment, but otherwise the chrysanthemums promise a blessing. Don’t they usually bloom later in the year, autumn wise? Mine are full of buds and beginning to bloom, the plants covered with coming colors. I pruned them back only one time, but that one pruning caused a complete cover of blossoms, and the plants are full and bushy, not tall and “leggy.” Beautiful in July!

There was a good many attending the first meeting of Vacation Bible School at Sugar Hill Church on Thursday, but they found the drainage ditch was clogged up and the ground was a “lob-lolly.” The event was postponed until the next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Hopefully all will go well. The Lincoln Senior Center director, Sue Parks, is hoping to publish a cookbook and sell at the Apple Festival, a much needed fundraiser to help keep the center open.

The center receives one point if you eat lunch, and one point for socializing. At the end of each month, the center receives funds from the government for the points. The funds received cover about one-half of operating expenses. Operating budget for the year is $193,000. Out of this budget we need to raise $45,000. An average of $4,750 per month that needs to be raised.

The suggested $3 donation for the meal helps, but more is needed.

If this cookbook is published, many need to contribute our favorite recipes, a small contribution for a great cause.

To all Lincoln graduates, the annual Alumni reunion is this Sunday, July 16, in the High School on Highway 62 East, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Happy birthday to Andrew Stathakis, Allen Moore, Dale Hutchinson, Kate Cheatham, Lynn Bush, Scott Davis, Jack Chenowith, Mason Roy, Clark Bailey, Helen Bailey, Danny Butler.

Happy anniversary to Trenton and Laura Pretty.

Happy years, all!
