School Board Approves Loan
LINCOLN — Lincoln School Board, minus two members, approved a resolution last week for a 10-year loan from Arvest Bank to finance artificial turf on the football field and a new rubberized track surface around it.
Three banks submitted bids to provide $800,000 in financing for the two projects for Lincoln High School’s athletic complex.
Arvest Bank submitted the low bid, a 3.43 percent interest rate on the loan. Simmons Bank and First Security Bank also submitted bids.
Board members Kendra Moore, Lisa Reed and Nick Brewer voted
in favor of the resolution. Board President Connie Meyer and member Dax Moreton were absent.
Lincoln will pay $7,884 monthly on the loan for a total of about $95,000 per year.
The district is paying for the turf and new track surface through a partnership with Wolfpack Foundation, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization created last year to support Lincoln students.
Lincoln School District is committing $30,000 annually for debt service on the loan with the Foundation expected to provide the balance through fundraising efforts.
Last month, Superintendent Mary Ann Spears said the projects should not cost the district any new money. The $30,000 is what the school spends each year for maintaining the football field.
Lincoln has contracted with Geo Surfaces of Baton Rouge, La., to install the artificial turf and rubberized track.
In other action, the board accepted resignations from two teachers, Cody Forga and Casey Donson, and approved hiring four staff members.
Erwin Starts will teach civics/economics at the high school and coach defensive backs and wide receivers on the junior high and high school football teams. Reed Mendoza will teach eighthgrade social studies and be junior high head football coach and offensive line coach for high school football.
For Lincoln Elementary School, Cassie Glidewell was hired for second and third grade and Morgan Turner will teach kindergarten.
