Another Birthday Celebration: 99 Years Old

Another special celebration in our area was Sunday, Aug. 20, when friends and family gathered in the home of Lois Norvell to help her celebrate her 99th birthday. There were at least 68 present for the come and go event. Lois said they “just kept a coming.” To make it even more special for Lois, was the presence of her daughter Wanda Viscaria of Fresno, Calif., and grandson and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Viscaria from Tulsa, all of whom left Thursday for their homes, after a several days visit.

As these months usually do, September is slipping upon us, and September is fall hat month, school success, little league, youth pastors appreciation, children’s eye health and safety, children’s good manners, baby safety, reunion planning, Southern Gospel Music, library card sign-up, coupon, piano, biscuit, chicken, potato, mushroom, honey, rice, sewing, and Be Kind to Editors and Writers month. And there is Labor Day, Patriots’ Day, Grandparents Day, Constitution Day, and the first day of Autumn.

Some humor to start the month: A small-town farmer, his wife and son went to visit the city for the first time. While the wife went shopping, the man and his son explored the huge buildings. Upon entering one skyscraper they saw an elevator open, an old woman enters, and the door close. A couple minutes later, the doors opened and a young woman stepped out. ” Hurry, son,” said the man, “Go get your ma. I’m gonna run her through this machine.”
