Carl Eugene Baker
Carl Eugene Baker, 90, of Wedington Community, Ark., died on Dec. 19, 2017, at his home. He was born on June 7, 1927, in Siloam Springs, Ark., the son of William Baker and Malinda Richey Baker.
He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Phoebe Johnson on Sept. 4, 1947, in Cane Hill, Ark. He was a train master for Rock Island Railroad and retired as a train traffic controller for Chicago Metro. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and Ozark Foxtrotters Riding Club. He was a member of Wedington Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1954.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Elaine Hamilton; three brothers, John Baker, Dean Baker, and Charles Baker; and one sister, Sue Mounce.
He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Baker of the home; two sons, Dennis Eugene Baker and wife Ladonna of Imperial, Mo., and Carl Michael Baker and wife Rhonda of Summers, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Owen D. Baker and wife Elaine of Sealy, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at Wedington Baptist Church, Wedington Community with Pastor Doug Brown officiating. Burial followed at Wedington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 641, Prairie Grove, AR 72753.
