Farmington Track Ready By Spring

FOOTBALL, SOCCER FIELD EXPECTED BY AUGUST 2019

FARMINGTON — Farmington superintendent of schools Bryan Law updated the School Board on Phase 3 construction at the new high school campus, during a Dec. 18 school board meeting.

“Dirt is moving for Phase 3, but we still don’t have a final plan,” Law said, indicating the final dollar figures are not in yet, but saying he is confident those figures will be determined by the Jan. 22, 2018, board meeting.

“We’ve made so many changes to where we were to where we are now,” Law said.

Discussions are ongoing regarding astroturf at the new football stadium and adjoining soccer field. Law stated the district doesn’t have a solid cost projection yet, just a broad range of where the cost should fall. He lauded the advantages of going through construction management as opposed to soliciting bids. Utilizing construction management gives the district more control over the process.

“If we don’t like it, we can go back through it again,” Law said. “There are kids doing the pole vault in track and field. I understand that the kids who do the pole vault have to go outside of the city to do that. It will be nice to have that on-site.”

The track and field facilities should be ready for the spring season while Law estimates the football stadium and soccer field will be completed by August of 2019.

“It’s a challenge to want to stay out in front of the growth, but it’s exciting,” Law said.

Board President Jeff Oxford complimented Clayton Williams, high school assistant principal, on overseeing a successful move from the old high school into the new campus just before the school year started in the fall.

“It’s been a good fall, although it went by fast. The transition over there was about as smooth as it could be,” Oxford said, thanking the staff while expressing appreciation for the work they do and wishing those present a Merry Christmas.
