New Day School Opens In Farmington

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — Trinity Prep Day School offers a program Monday-Friday for preschool children, a separate program for older children and a Saturday school.

The day school opened Jan. 15 at 56 W. Main St., in the former location of the Elizabeth Richardson Center. The building once housed Farmington’s Post Office.

Trinity Prep is owned by Chris and Leigh Jones. Leigh Jones also has Diamond Dance Studio in Farmington.

The school is open Monday-Friday and offers a program for infants and children through 6 years old, a before school and after school program for children who are in kindergarten through sixth grade and a Saturday School for infants through sixth grade.

The school currently is accepting children. About 20 children already have registered and Trinity Prep is licensed for 52 children.

Leigh Jones said the school is considered a privately owned, Christian facility. It uses a curriculum called Mother Goose Experience God, along with a custom-designed curriculum for each age group.

Elizabeth Brown will serve as school director. She holds a master’s degree in building curriculum and childhood education and was a teacher at Providence Academy in Fayetteville before coming to Trinity Prep.

Brown has 10 years of experience in public school, private school and childcare.

“We’re looking forward to serving families,” Brown said. “We really believe in having the opportunity to love on children and families and shower them with God’s grace and love.”

Leigh said the idea for a day school “fell into our laps.” She and her husband were working with a realtor to find a place to expand her dance studio. When the realtor showed them the building on Main Street, they knew it wouldn’t work for the dance program but “it clicked” they could use it to open a school for children.

She said their equipment and furniture comes from a center in Kansas City that was moving to a new facility.

“It was just placed in our hands,” Leigh Jones said.

The school currently has seven teachers and will have two teachers per classroom at full capacity.
