- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — A 14-2 run by Shiloh Christian enabled the Saints to pull away in the second quarter as the Saints beat Lincoln, 71-43, on Jan. 23.

The Wolves got off to a much better start defensively than in the first meeting with Shiloh Christian, but as the game progressed the Saints pulled away.

Shiloh swept the season series from the Wolves. The Saints won big, 83-47, on Dec. 12 in the first meeting. In that game the Saints exploded for 26 first quarter points. Lincoln held the Saints to 15 this time and played well early, tying the game at 7-7 on Troy Sugg’s field goal. The Saints earned separation with back-to-back 3-pointers from Reagan Neal and a 2-point basket by Gregory Bryant. Braden Umberson scored to keep the Wolves within six points, 15-9, at the end of the first quarter.

Troy Sugg hit a pair of 3-pointers among his 9 points in the second quarter for Lincoln. The Saints countered with four 3-pointers of their own in the period. Chance Blankenship’s free throw pulled Lincoln within 27-21 but the next 11 points of the contest all belonged to Shiloh. Troy Sugg broke the drought for Lincoln. Neal answered with his third 3-pointer of the half to boost Shiloh to a 41-23 lead at intermission.

The Saints put the game out of reach, despite only holding a 5-point advantage in the third quarter (18-13). The 59-36 deficit was too much for Lincoln to overcome in the fourth quarter. Ten Saints scored, led by Hutchinson’s 21 points. Reagan Neal added 12 and Jaret Russ had 10 for Shiloh Christian. Troy Sugg scored a game-high 23 points for the Wolves and Brance Sugg chipped in 10.
