Council Enters Design Agreement For Water Tank

- By Lynn Kutter

PRAIRIE GROVE — The City Council at its February meeting authorized an engineering agreement with McGoodwin, Williams and Yates Division of Olsson Associates to design a new water storage tank for the city’s water system.

The firm will determine the site and size for a new tank to meet future needs. Prairie Grove now has two storage tanks, one built in 1976 and the other in 1996.

As part of the project, the firm also will evaluate and update hydraulic modeling for the city’s water system, update mapping, complete a long-range planning analysis and evaluate line issues in the south side of the City.

In other action, Council members approved a resolution that supports the requirements necessary to be a part of the Arkansas Downtown Network program with Main Street Arkansas. If selected, the city has to commit to the program for three years, have a steering committee and a minimum annual budget of $4,300.

The city has agreed to pay one-half of the budget each year and the balance will come from Prairie Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and downtown merchants.

In addition, Council authorized its annual contract with Steven Parker of Prairie Grove to serve as city attorney. For the past five years, Parker has received $150 per hour. For 2018, the city will pay him $175 per hour.
