Lady Wolves Beat Tigers

- By Mark Humphrey

— Lincoln’s defense stymied Prairie Grove despite 11 hits by the Lady Tigers which produced only two runs in a 10-2 loss Tuesday, March 13.

The Lady Tigers were a collective 11-of-28 for an impressive .393 average led by senior Katharine McConnell, who was 4-of-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Classmate Kylie Scott was 3-of-4. Yet, all that firepower virtually went for naught. A telling statistic was Prairie Grove had no runs batted in. McConnell’s 2 stolen bases filled in the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle of Prairie Grove’s statistical malady that included 15 runners left on base.

Lincoln senior Jada Corbit turned a double play and the Lady Wolves limited their errors making only 2. Senior Ayden Massey allowed no runs on 5 hits with 1 base-on-balls and 2 strikeouts over 4 innings. Freshman Paige Umberson also threw well yielding 2 runs on 4 hits among 13 batters she faced in three innings of work.

Lincoln took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Neither team scored for the next two innings before the Lady Wolves added 3 in the top of the fourth, one in the fifth and 4 more in the sixth. Prairie Grove had one run in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Corbit, Umberson, Katie Lankford and Tristan Cunningham had 2 hits apiece. Massey helped her cause at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a double. Six Lincoln players drove in one run each. Lankford and Kinley Webb each belted triples. Cunningham had 2 doubles.

Madie Stearman took the loss for Prairie Grove, allowing 10 runs on 14 hits with 2 base-on-balls and 2 strikeouts.

The Lady Wolves turned back Berryville, 6-2, in nonconference softball action Thursday. Lincoln scored 2 runs in the bottom of the third, another in the fourth. Hollie Webb and Cunningham both singled to get aboard in the third.
