Lincoln Rodeo Set

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — This year marks the second year for the Lincoln Rodeo to be held in May. Dates are May 17-19 for 2018, at the Lincoln Riding Club Arena.

For several years the rodeo was held the first or second week of June, but in recent years those dates conflicted with other rodeos in which club members wanted to participate.

Additional events associated with the Lincoln Rodeo, including speech and modeling pageants for Lincoln Riding Club royalty, feature a personal interview of each queen, junior queen and princess contestant plus horsemanship competition.

The Lil’ Mister and Lil’ Miss contest will be held Wednesday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in front of the bandstand set up for the street dance from 8-11 p.m.

From Thursday through Saturday, Lincoln Riding Club’s rodeo arena showcases events in several categories including: steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc, team roping, bareback riding, barrel racing, calf roping and break-a-way roping.

The rodeo has been sanctioned for several years by American Cowboys Rodeo Association and the International Professional Rodeo Association.

The stick horse grand entry held nightly at 7:30 p.m. gives youngsters an opportunity to be part of the rodeo, followed by the 8 p.m. rodeo performance.

On Saturday, participants line up for the rodeo parade at Lincoln Riding Club arena. The rodeo parade begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the stick horse grand entry at 7:30 p.m. and final rodeo performance at 8 p.m.
