Guild Hosts One-Day Writers Conference
Siloam Springs Writers Guild will host its second annual Summer Writers’ Conference, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Siloam Springs First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road.
The theme of the conference is “Chasing the Dream: the Road to Success!”
Keynote speaker will be Dr. Patsy Watkins, associate professor of print (magazine) journalism at the University of Arkansas. Her teaching areas include media ethics, computer-assisted graphics, periodical publications, and graphic design. Her research has focused on visual communication in news photography and publication design.
Professionally, Watkins has worked in newspaper reporting, magazine editing, freelance graphic design, radio and university public relations. She has published about 30 books of poetry and short stories.
Other speakers are Roy Lessin, Carolyn Steele and Jennifer McMurrain.
Lessin started a Christian publishing company called Outreach Publication in Covina, Calif. The company created a Christmas card that was the beginning of DaySpring Cards.
Steele presents programs designed to inspire others to preserve ancestral legends. She has won numerous awards and had countless short stories published.
McMurrain has won numerous awards for her short stories and novels.
Conference fee is $35 by cash or check. To register, send fee to Siloam Springs Writers Guild, 1600 Rosewood Lane, Siloam Springs, AR 72761. On the memo line put: Writers Conference. On a separate piece of paper print the name of each registrant as preferred on the name tag.
