Lady Cardinals Achieve Tournament Success
FARMINGTON — Seven Lady Cardinals from Farmington’s State 5A Runner-Up softball team received All-Conference honors from the 5A West and two more were awarded honorable mention All-Conference.
Farmington went 27-5, taking a No. 1 seed into the 5A West Conference softball tournament, which they won. The Lady Cardinals won three games during the State 5A tournament at Harrison advancing to the 5A State finals played May 19, at the Benton Sports Complex. A disappointing 3-2 loss to Greenbrier sent them home with a second place trophy, yet the 5A classification and the 5A West league recognized their talent.
Attaining All-State status were a trio of Lady Cardinals: Carley Antwine, Paige Devecsery and Alyssa Reed. Antwine was selected to play in the June 22 All-Star softball game.
All-Conference selections were: Antwine, Devecsery, Reed, Shayley Treat, Paige Anderson, Madison Parrish, and McKenzie Bogan. Receiving All-Conference honorable mention were Camryn Journagan and Eliana Marano. Reed and Parrish were also chosen to participate in the 2018 Junior Showcase.
Paige Devecsery
Devecsery was Farmington’s No. 1 pitcher compiling a 17-4 record with an earned run average of 1.42. She posted two shutouts and earned one save. She faced 483 batters and pitched 118.1 innings over the course of the season, striking out 111 in 451 at-bats while yielding a mere 27 baseon-balls.
Devecsery was handy with her bat, hitting .308 with 108 plate appearances. She knocked out 28 hits in 91 at-bats with 22 RBIs and 4 doubles. Although frequently replaced by a courtesy runner, Devecsery scored 11 runs for the Lady Cardinals. Devecsery competed in each of the 32 games Farmington played with a .907 fielding percentage and turning a double play once.
Alyssa Reed
Reed batted .365, making 110 plate appearnces and 96 at-bats. Reed was typically replaced by a courtesy runner once she got on base, yet still scored 8 runs. She recorded 35 hits, 45 RBIs, 6 doubles and 7 home runs. Reed’s statistical accomplishments were highlighted by a .645 slugging percentage. Reed’s fielding percentage at catcher was .995.
Carley Antwine
Antwine posed a threat every time she came up to bat at the top of the order. Antwine played every game of 32 contests Farmington participated in with a .441 batting average. She knocked out 45 hits in 102 at-bats from 122 plate appearances. Antwine scored 44 runs with 26 RBIs, 17 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs. Her on-base percentage of .529 included 18 base-onballs and 4 times reaching on an error. Antwine sported a .931 fielding percentage and turned two double plays.
Shayley Treat
Treat moved into the starting lineup as a freshman. Potential demonstrated for Treat with 19 runs scored, 2 doubles and 1 triple. She played in 32 games, finishing with an .893 fielding percentage and turned 3 double plays.
Paige Anderson
Anderson played third base, appearing in all 32 Farmington games. Anderson batted .314 with 27 hits in 86 at-bats from 103 plate appearances with 23 runs scored, 13 RBIs, and 5 doubles. Anderson’s fielding percentage of .875 was hampered by multiple errors in one game.
Madison Parrish
Parrish hit .309 in 32 games. She made 111 plate appearances, producing 29 hits and 29 RBIs in 94 at-bats with 26 runs scored, 12 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 home run. Despite making 3 errors, Parrish racked up a fielding percentage of .929.
McKenzie Bogan
A part-time pitcher, Bogan appeared in 29 games. Bogan’s ERA was 2.29. She went 8-1 in the chalked circle with 2 shutouts and 1 save. Bogan threw 73.1 innings, allowing 38 runs on 85 hits with 49 strike-outs. She gave up 1 home run in 317 at-bats while facing 322 batters.
Bogan was capable with her bat illustrated by 6 doubles and 4 home runs. Bogan posted a .333 batting average with 28 hits in 84 at-bats off 92 plate appearances with 10 runs scored and 28 RBIs. She had a .923 fielding percentage and was involved in one double play.
Camryn Journagan
Journagan got a late start in softball after playing guard for the Farmington girls basketball team that advanced to the state quarterfinals. She appeared in 24 games, hitting .371. Journagan banged out 26 hits in 70 at-bats with 81 plate appearances with 20 runs scored, 21 RBIs, 3 doubles, and 3 triples. Journagan got on base 44 percent of the time, and her fielding percentage was .880.
Eliana Marano
Marano bats left-handed. Marano had 10 stolen bases. As a junior Marano batted .315 with 17 hits in 54 at-bats, 70 plate appearances, 25 runs scored, an RBI and a double. She played in 31 games ending the season with a .909 fielding percentage.
