Back To School Event Set For July 21

-

A Back to School resource fair event offering new backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, snack packs and books will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Prairie Grove Elementary School, 300 Ed Staggs Drive.

Harps Food Stores and Altursa International of Washington County Inc., are sponsoring the Back to School event.

A free lunch and a vendor fair for parents also is included in the day’s activities.

Youngsters can participate in an obstacle course to win prizes, and they also may select a free book to take home to read. Door prizes also will be awarded during the event.

This is the sixth annual Parent Up event, said Kendall Smith, president of Altrusa International of Washington County Inc. Last year, the group gave away over 300 backpacks loaded with school supplies and more than 100 snack packs to children from Prairie Grove, Lincoln, Farmington, Greenland and West Fork.

Volunteers gave over 100 haircuts to youngsters as they prepared for the start of school.

“This is an event to help children and their parents in those communities as they prepare for a new school year with new supplies and fresh haircuts,” Smith said.

The event is sponsored by Altrusa International Foundation, Harps Food Stores, United Bank, Arvest Bank, Bank of Fayetteville, First Security Bank, Ozarks Electric Cooperative, Jack Link’s, Pepperidge Farms and Ben E. Keith. Centennial Bank also provided financial support.

Altrusa International of Washington County Inc. is a local community service organization dedicated to organizing events to address needs in local communities.
