Jack Smock

-

Jack Smock, 78, passed away in his Farmington, Ark., home, June 29, 2018. He was laid to rest near his childhood home in Etna, Mo.

He was born Nov. 24, 1939. He joined the United States Navy in 1956 and served on the USS McGinty as a shipfitter, until 1962. He lived in Omaha, Neb. until retirement in 2006 when he moved to Arkansas, where good riding days were plentiful and his grandchildren were close.

He loved engines and the open road. His two passions combined, and for 50 years, he rode his Harley Davidson all over North America, visiting friends, family, rallies and races, earning a few Iron Butt Awards along the way. When not riding, he worked in his shop where the radio was tuned to country. He would sing along, tapping the toe of his cowboy boot as he worked. He could fix anything, including his boots with a little duct tape and JB weld.

He is survived by his bride, Jeanne Vanous Smock; son, Dan (Jennifer); grandchildren, Justin and Cheyenne; daughter, Debbi (Roger) Benish; granddaughter, Makenzie; two sisters; four brothers; and extended family.

His legacy for love of family, his quick wit and what he called a “wealth of useless information,” will forever be remembered fondly.

A potluck and social time of remembering was held Sunday, July 15, at 16325 W. Hwy. 62 in Prairie Grove, Ark.
