Cemetery Damage Disheartening

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

I complain about the fact that the first two or three subjects on the evening news reports are mostly bad news; but here I go, opening this report with news that is upsetting and disheartening to say the least. We have found major, and I do mean major, damage in the Beaty Cemetery, with dozens of stones overturned, broken loose, upset and broken off. This much damage couldn’t have been caused by a fourlegged animal. A very sad thing is that many stones mark graves that there are no family left to care for them, much less fixing or paying for fixing this damage, and that presents a very big problem.

Now, life goes on, the hay fields are again full of the big round bales as farmers cut what hay they can save, since the grass isn’t growing as dry as it is. Cutting the hay cleans up the fields for when we do get rain, it will be clean and growing for the next cutting.

It seems that we have had more hot days than usual, and we still have August to go through but hopefully with more rain.

And now, August is family fun month, family meal, get ready for kindergarten, National back to school, children’s vision, national immunization, cataract awareness, hypnosis awareness, spinal muscular atrophy, inventors, motor sports awareness, catfish, goat cheese, admit you’re happy, and happiness happens month.

August is also a patriotic month, with Air Force Day, National Airborne Day, Aviation Day, Aug. 7, 1782, the Purple Heart medal was established, and the never-to-be forgotten Aug. 14, 1945, when Japan surrendered, ending World War II.

Happy birthday to Ava Marie Nichols, Keith Myers, Shaun McClelland, Casie Ruland, Dustin Long, Elizabeth Myers, Dorothy Murray, Blake Myers, Loyd Jones, Michael Munyon, Rosalie Glidewell, Dorothy Borchardt.

Happy anniversary to Roger and Phyllis Reed.

Happy years, all!
