Prairie Grove Camp Draws 30
PRAIRIE GROVE — The Prairie Grove Dug Out Club hosted a baseball camp for ages 8-15 two days last week with a three-hour session at Prairie Grove’s Rieff Park.
Among the camp coaches were Tim Carver, a former Razorback drafted by Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies; Chris Mileham, head baseball coach at Prairie Grove; and Colton West, of Rogers State, former coach at Union Tennesee. Mileham previously coached in the Minor Leagues for the Wichita, Kan. Wing nuts.
According to Mileham around 30 athletes participated in the camp. Athletes attending the camp received instruction on fielding, throwing, hitting, bunting and base-running from this experienced cast while using their own individual baseball equipment including: gloves, hats, bats and helmets. To maximize the experience players arrived dressed out in baseball attire with baseball pants, cleats and hat.
Mileham has been heavily involved with offseason baseball until this summer. The previous two summers, Mileham and his assistants personally toted around 2018 graduate D.J. Pearson, who recently signed with Central Baptist College, of Conway; and any other Prairie Grove kids who were ready to play at that level and get that kind of experience and were committed to put in that kind of work all summer long. Mileham admits, “Our summer program is thicker than the spring program here.”
“I was blessed to team up with a former player of mine, Tim Carver, over at Mountain Home,” Mileham said, explaining, “Tim is allowing me to be a dad this summer and stay home a little bit. It’s not every day, hands-on, like it had been the last two years, but it’s been great like I went over last week and watched them play in Memphis.”
According to Mileham a lot of returning players are on that team coached by Carver. Mountain Home High School and Prairie Grove sort of combined rosters for the summer.
Mileham posted on Facebook Friday celebrating the event, noting, “(The) 2018 Summer Baseball Camp is in the books. A special thanks to our awesome guest coaches and staff for volunteering their time. Hope everyone had as much fun as we did. Go Tigers!”
