Who Is On The General Election Ballot In 2018? Candidates Listed

With no Presidential vote or U.S. Senate election for Arkansas in 2018, just whose names will be on the General Election Ballot on Nov. 6?

Sadly, most Arkansans of voting age don’t know, so here goes:

A general election will be held in the U.S. state of Arkansas on Nov. 6, 2018

All of Arkansas’ state executive officers will be up for election as well as all of Arkansas’ four seats in the United States House of Representatives are up for voters to make choices.

There are five weeks (as of Wednesday, Sept. 26) until Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 6.

The candidates are out there working and needing voters to become familiar with them. Ask questions of these who would seek re-election or election to these state and federal offices to represent you the citizens of Northwest Arkansas.

Congressional races, of course, depend upon where you live, geographically.

3rd Congressional District

The 3rd Congressional District is located in northwestern Arkansas. Benton, Boone, Carroll, Marion, Pope, and Washington counties as well as portions of Crawford, Newton, Searcy, and Sebastian counties are included in the boundaries of the district.

Heading into the election the Republican incumbent Steve Womack, of Rogers, who was first elected in 2010.

Joshua Mahony of Fayetteville, is the Democratic nominee candidate seeking election to the U.S. House.

Michael Kalagias of Bentonville, is running as a Libertarian Candidate.

Statewide Races

Voters all over the state will be deciding these offices: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Commissioner of State Lands. Also in this mix is a runoff election between two non-partisan judicial candidates, State Supreme Court Justice Courtney Henry Goodson and David Sterling.

In a race-by-race description of the matchups on the ballot is:

Governor’s Race

Republican Candidate, Incumbent Gov. Asa Hutchinson is running for re-election to a second term. Democratic Candidate, Jared Henderson, the former executive director of the Arkansas branch of Teach for America is running. Mark West, a Libertarian candidate is also in the race.

Lt. Governor’s Race

Incumbent Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin, a Republican, is running for re-election to a second term. Democratic Candidate, Dr. Anthony Bland, a media technician, small business owner, and ordained Baptist minister is currently running.

Attorney General

Republican Candidate and incumbent Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is running for re-election to a second term. Democratic Candidate, Mike Lee, an attorney, is running for election.

Secretary of State

Incumbent Secretary of State Mark Martin is term-limited and cannot run for re-election. Those seeking the office are: Democratic Candidate, a former Director of Elections, Susan Inman is running for election.

Land Commissioner

Republican Land Commissioner John Thurston is running for a new office in this election. Thurston was term-limited after two terms as Land Commissioner and could not seek re-election. Those seeking the office are: Democratic nominee, Larry Williams. Republican Party Tommy Land. And Libertarian Party candidate, T.J. Campbell.

State Supreme Court Justice

Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Courtney Goodson faces Arkansas Department of Human Services chief counsel David Sterling in a Nov. 6 runoff election for a seat on the state’s highest court.

The nonpartisan race has generated controversy, as a lawsuit over a campaign ad is raising questions about the limits of free speech.

A Washington, D.C.,-based Judicial Crisis Network spent more than $900,000 on televised ads critical of Goodson and Appeals Court Judge Kenneth Hixson. Goodson filed a lawsuit to block one of the ads from appearing, deeming it defamation. These ads have not resurfaced in the run-off election between her and Sterling.

State Treasurer

Republican Dennis Milligan is seeking re-election. Ashley Marie Ewald, a Libertarian candidate, is from Uniontown.

State Auditor

Republican Auditor of State, Andrea Lea of Russellville, is seeking re-election David Dineiddle, a Libertarian candidate, from Pine Bluff, is also running. Next week: Regional and Local races on your ballots for State Senate and State House of Representatives.
