Bostian Second For Prairie Grove

HOT SPRINGS — Harrison claimed its 10th state title but its first in 15 years as the Lady Goblins placed four runners in the top 10 during the State 4A cross country meet.

The meet was held Nov. 2, 2018, at Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs.

Ruthy Ryan led Harrison as she won the individual title with a time of 20:57, edging out Prairie Grove’s Bekah Bostian by 8.8 seconds. Lady Goblin teammate Camryn Casey was third at 21:24.7, while Aidan Smithee and Olivia Pall finished sixth and ninth, respective­ly.

The Lady Goblins had 39 points, while Valley View was a distant second at 93, 23 points ahead of De Queen.

Prairie Grove

Bostian, a three-time winner of the race claimed individual titles as a freshman, sophomore and junior, was upstaged by Harrison’s Ryan with the Golden Goblins moving down from 5A. Bostian paced the Lady Tigers with a time of 21:05.8.

Three of her teammates finished in the top 50: Addie Nall, 30th, in 23:40.2; Sarah Myane, 33rd, in 23:50.1; and Megan Thompson, 41st, in 24:10.6. Also competing in 106th place was Mary Storlie (28:19.0). Prairie Grove finished in 7th place among team standings with 212 points.

Farmington

Four girls ran the course for Farmington: Macy Reese (23:28.2), Ashley Akridge (24:17.5), Anthea Jones (27:20.2), and Katie Jansson (33:41.2).

BOYS

Huntsville placed four runners in the top 10 and captured the first cross country state title in school history.

The Eagles finished with 43 points while De Queen finished second with 61. Pea Ridge was a distant third with 134, a point ahead of Berryville.

Jacob Braswell led Huntsville with his second-place finish in a time of 17:30.1, nearly a second faster than De Queen’s Hector Hernandez. Colton Edens took fourth for Huntsville, followed by Jett Loenneke and Tanner Barbee, who finished eighth and 10th, respective­ly.

Parker Ables of Heber Springs took the individual championsh­ip, covering the course in 16:53.5.

Prairie Grove

Prairie Grove placed four of its eight runners in the top 100. Josh Brant paced the Tigers with a time of 19:06.0, good for 21st. Coming in 27th was Brandon LeDuc in 19:17.4. Placing 63rd was Kade Mitchell in 20:20.1, while 71st place belonged to Garrett Wade in 20:29.2; and No. 83 across the finish line was Noah Akey in 20:48.9. The fifth Tiger to finish was Peter Erdman in 101st place at 21:23.7. Also coming in for the Tigers were: Caleb Doughty, 21:36.6; Zach Helmer, 22:02.2; and Eli Mertz, 22:11.1. Prairie Grove placed eighth in the team standings with a score of 265.

Farmington

Farmington is still developing its distance running program. The Cardinals got a strong showing in 11th place from Kolby Gardner with a time of 18:44.9. One other runner cracked the top 100 in 60th place was Canon King in 20:14.3.

Also placing among the top 200 were: 127th Ruben Whitney, 22:05.3; 142nd Mason Gansz, 22:34.2: 151st Caleb Grusing, 22:57.7); 175th Carson Dearing, 24:04.6; and 180th Kyler Pitts, 24:43.8. Rounding out Farmington’s squad was Gavin Shadden, 25:13.3. Farmington finished 19th among team standings.
