Lower Temperatures Were Welcomed

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Finally, the 2-week “drought” ended, with reports of around one inch of rain. And lower temperatures!

I received a card from a friend in Virginia and she said their crops are in need of rain.

Recently, for two mornings we could see the moon (no clouds) until about mid-morning, when it set behind the horizon. It was a full moon, and though the sun was up, the moon was a white color, and very visible against the blue sky, outshining the few white clouds floating by. Yes, some times it is visible during the day, but it only shines its bright light during the darkness of night, as God intended from the Beginning.

It doesn’t seem possible, but I have two more great-grandchildren who are high school seniors this year. Their graduation will come all too soon, then on to higher goals, as with the others, Allee and Derek were only toddlers in my memory. Allee has already had her senior pictures made at her grandparents, Johnny and Anna Cheatham’s farm, some with her horse and other “farm” scenes. She is a country girl at heart, so I’m wondering about what she might finally choose in life.

August for some reason, is National “air” day, Air Force Day, National Airborne Day, and National Aviation Day.

It also is National back to school month, get ready for kindergarten, children’s vision learning, National immunization awareness, motor sports, inventors, cataract awareness, catfish, goat cheese, family meal together, family fun, happiness happens, and admit you are happy month.

And really important, on Aug. 14, 1945, Japan surrendered, ending World War II, a war that cost more than 400,000 of our finest.

Happy birthday to Ava Marie Nichols, Keith Myers, Shaun McClellan, Dustin Long, Holland Oliver, Elizabeth Myers, Dorothy Murray, Blake Myers, Loyd Jones, Michael Munyon, Rosalie Glidewell.

Happy anniversary to Roger and Phyllis Reed.

Happy years, all!
