Berryville Squeezes Lady Tigers

PRAIRIE GROVE —A 6-2 run over the final 25.5 seconds of regulation went for naught as Prairie Grove didn’t score in overtime while losing, 45-40, to Berryville on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Trinity Dobbs and Torie Price hit clutch 3-pointers in the last half minute of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Dobbs, who finished with a game-high 17 points, pulled the Lady Tigers within 38-37, then Price, who added 12 points for Prairie Grove, did likewise after Berryville made both ends of a 1-and-1.

“We got some turnovers and stops. Torie Price hit a three to go into overtime. Her and Trinity (Dobbs) hit two big threes. We got some good shots at the end of regulation,” said Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud. “The girls kept competing and we got some in overtime, we just couldn’t make them.

In overtime neither team scored for the first 2:45 of the extra four minute session. Berryville broke the ice coming out of a time-out when coach Daniel Cornelison set up a play with center Jordan Estepp coming up to the free throw line to catch the ball. She used a pump fake to freeze a defender and drove to the basket, drawing a foul and making a free throw. Her second foul shot was no good, but Prairie Grove couldn’t come up with the rebound and Lexy Anderson put the ball back in the hoop, scoring the only field goal of overtime.

Berryville finally sealed the contest at the charity stripe with Lilli Compton going 2-for-2. The Lady Bobcats improved to 16-5, 5-2 in the 4A-1 while Prairie Grove fell to 8-12, 2-5. Anderson finished with 15 to lead Berryville with Compton adding 11.

“We made too many mistakes on defensive in- bounds and defensive rebounding,” Froud said. “We have a slim margin for error. We messed up a few times tonight. That’s what cost us.”
