Farmington’s Schrader A Walk-On For Tech

- By Mark Humphrey

FARMINGTON — Farmington senior Jaden Schrader will get an opportunity to continue his football career as a walk- on at Arkansas Tech.

Schrader played the part of a bruising runner as 6-0, 212- pound tailback. Last summer Schrader went to a camp at Tech, then was invited to a game-day visit in the fall. He made an official visit on Jan. 31. During a 1- on- 1 meeting, Tech head coach Kyle Shipp told Schrader he would be a very nice fit to the Wonder Boys’ program.

“We decided it was best for me to walk-on this year,” Schrader said. “I’m going to try and earn my scholarship after fall camp.”

The discussion centered around moving Schrader to H-back, which is a combination of tight end and fullback with a player typically shifting around depending upon the situation and formation.

“I’m not going to be offered the money to play there, but he thinks I have the size, ability and everything it takes to play D2 football,” Schrader said. “Taking advantage of my physical size and the things I’m good at.”

During his senior season Schrader played in nine games carrying the football 73 times gaining 342 yards for a 4.7 average. His production added 38- yards- pergame to the Cardinal ground game. Schrader’s long run went 61 yards. He had one 100-yard rushing game and scored 4 touchdowns. He also caught two passes out of the backfield.

Schrader handled Farmington’s punting duties in 2019. His 23 punts traveled 781 yards averaging 34-yardsper-punt with a long of 58 yards and 9 punts inside the 20.

Schrader is considering his options as to what course of studies he wants to concentrate on.

“My major is undecided right now but as I get to college and find more of myself I’m probably going to find what I’m good at and what I’m going to do in life,” Schrader said. “I’m real excited for this coming year and for the rest of my life to go and move on as my football career progresses. It’s something that I’ve dreamed of for a long time. I’ve been playing football since I can’t remember.”
