Gravette Runs Past Lady Wolves

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — Lincoln suffered a 42-point loss to former 4A-1 Conference foe, Gravette playing in its new Lion Arena Dec. 1 in a nonconference contest. Gravette won 63-21.

Lincoln is now a member of the 3A-1 Conference after competing in the 4A-1 from 2012-2018. Lincoln freshman Sarah Snodgrass, who scored 11 points to lead the Lady Wolves, possesses tremendous potential, but got an up-close look at one of the top players in the state, Lady Lion senior guard Shylee Morrison; and a first-hand experience competing against one of the best teams in the 4A Classification.

Gravette scored the first 10 points of the contest. Lincoln appeared about to break the ice getting the ball to a player going to the basket, but Lizzy Ellis blocked the layup attempt. Morrison had 3 steals in the early going taking two of them all the way for transition baskets including a spectacular behind- theback dribble on the run followed by a layup stretching Gravette’s lead to 14-0.

Snodgrass broke the ice for Lincoln, taking a rebound and driving the length of the court before hitting a short jumper. Morrison answered with a pull-up 3-pointer at the other end giving Gravette a 20-2 lead after the first quarter.

In the second period, Snodgrass got another field goal, making a strong move on the baseline. Gravette’s Taylor Neustel set up on the wing and hit a 3-pointer before Lincoln could chase her down during a fast-break. That extended the margin out to 27-8. Snodgrass used a behind-the-back dribble to get down the lane and drew a foul, making both charity shots to get the Lady Wolves into double digits.

Reese Hamilton joined Gravette’s 3-point act and Morrison went coast-to-coast twice as did Hamilton and the Lady Lions led 37-10 at halftime.

Gravette’s lead swelled to 52-13 when Morrison knocked down back-to-back treys and added a third trifecta after Alexa Parker hit a three for the Lady Lions in the third quarter.

Snodgrass converted a much- needed pair of old-fashioned 3-point plays for the Lady Wolves, who trailed 57-19 after three quarters as Gravette coasted to a 63-21 win.

Lincoln shot poorly, making just 18 percent on total field goals and 14 percent on 3-pointers while Gravette hit 36 percent from the field and 28 percent at the 3-point line.
