Historic Cane Hill to host picnic, family fun day

- Special to Enterprise-Leader

CANE HILL — Members and friends of the Cane Hill community are invited to attend a family-friendly, bring-your-own-picnic day, beginning at noon, Sunday, April 2, at Historic Cane Hill.

Historic Cane Hill celebrates members of the local community and all their efforts to preserve the architectural, natural and historical riches of Cane Hill.

“We recognize the deep sense of place and history that most locals have and we are reminded every day of how invested and proud so many people are in this area,” said David Collins, public programs manager at Historic Cane Hill. “At Historic Cane Hill, we so appreciate the surrounding community and the support that we get from residents. So this is a chance for people with ties to Cane Hill, whether old or new, to come together and just have fun in the place we all love.”

The picnic will be held on the Presbyterian Church lawn and will last until 3 p.m. A limited number of tables and chairs will be available in the HCH Pavilion on the church lawn but visitors are strongly encouraged to bring picnic blankets, chairs and any other desired furniture for an outside meal. Participants should bring their own ready-to-eat family picnic. Dessert items and soft drinks will be provided. No methods of cooking will be available onsite the day of the event so attendees should pre-grill, pre-bake and otherwise pre-assemble their food.

Canine family members are also welcome to attend but HCH asks that any pets be leashed while on campus and care be taken to keep the grounds clean.

Picnickers will also be able to play lawn games, win prizes, hike the trails, sign up to volunteer at future events, participate in a sitewide scavenger hunt, color Historic Cane Hill coloring sheets, decorate with sidewalk chalk and more. Students from the Roots Music mentoring program at Inside Out Studio in Farmington, sponsored by HCH and led by Jacob Paul, will also play music throughout the day. The Museum, Gallery and Presbyterian Church will all be open to visitors beginning at 1 p.m.

The Historic Cane Hill College building is located at 14219 College Rd, Canehill, AR 72717. Parking will be available at the College building and in the field along College Road across from the College building.
