Now in its 37th year, the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale is a cornerstone of the Rendezvous Royale: Celebration of the Arts taking place in Cody, Wyoming, from September 17 through 22. The show and live auction features works by more than 100 contemporary Western artists, including Rox Corbett, Ann Hanson, Ron Kingswood, Walter Matia, John Potter, Kevin Red Star, Michael Ome Untiedt and Michele Usibelli.

Hanson’s painting Eagle’s Gift is of fellow artist John Potter, holding a staff given to him by his uncle. “John was told by his uncle that the carving on the staff symbolizes the Eagle’s spiral ascent higher into the sky— taking the prayers of the people to the Creator.

I also added an element of John’s work into the painting to depict his awesome talent,” Hanson describes.

Of the event, Potter says, “I always look forward to the Buffalo Bill Show as an opportunity to reunite with artist and collector friends and family that I may not have seen since last year—or the last show! The show’s director, as well as the town of Cody, its chamber and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West always put on such an amazing, well-run and well-attended event.” Potter will showcase works featuring eagles.

The event will open on September 17 with Painting on the Porch, a dynamic event where plein air artist will teach painting during the day and fish with guests on the Shoshone River in the evening. On September 20, the Buffalo Bill Center for the West will host Tim Newton, curator of the American Masters and chairman of the board of New York’s Salmagundi Club for a lunch and lecture session on the influence of the West on art.

The live auction takes place September 21 at 6 p.m., and a crowd-pleasing quick draw and champagne brunch event takes place the next day at 9 a.m. The week is topped off with a black tie gala for Buffalo Bill Center of the West patrons on September 22 at 6 p.m.
