Western Art Collector

Western Makers

Nothing says “classic Western” quite like leather fringe. It worked for early American trappers and mountain men, and it’s remarkably held its place within American culture with modern fashion and design.

One of the contemporary designers who’s bringing leather fringe, as well as other magnificent leather goods, into the 21st century is Casey Curtis of Casey Curtis Designs. The Montana designer works under the motto of “breathtaking, wild and free—fashion that answers to no one.” She also strives to use recycled materials where possible, and will frequently turn old leather goods, including cowboy boots, into new works of art.

“Casey Curtis Designs is a carefully curated Western collective of quality fine art, leather accessories and apparel,” Curtis says. “Based out of Montana, the brand strives to utilize the state’s natural resources paired with quality leathers. Recycle and look good doing it! Recycled materials and leathers are found throughout the collection for sustainable mindful fashion statements.”

Other products include purses and clutches, jewelry, hatbands, shawls and vests, wallets and bolos. One of her more popular items is leather fringe feathers, which appear on many of her pieces. She also does custom orders, where she works with clients to come up with designs to suit their fashion needs.

“I am a dreamer, cowgirl, designer and artist that believes everyone is beautiful in their own way. It is my life’s mission to create art you can wear, and for your life that makes you feel strong, confident and the original that you are; able to take on whatever life may throw your way,” she says. “Working as a designer in the fashion industry, I learned really fast that the design world consists mainly of disposable fast fashion, where everyone looks and dresses the same. My life’s mission is to create for you timeless, quality, handcrafted fashion that is made to last. You live one life; let what you are, what you dream and what you wear be an original.”

Her work has appeared at shows around the country, and it is currently available Cry Baby Ranch in Denver and at Head West in Bozeman, Montana. Her work can also be seen and purchased through her website.
