The collection of Janey Briscoe Marmion is now in the permanent collection of the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. Her father, Dolph Briscoe, was the governor of Texas from 1973 to 1979, and he, along with her mother, Janey Slaughter Briscoe, are the namesakes of the Texas museum.

The collection was donated to the museum following the 2018 passing of Janey Briscoe Marmion. It is now on display at the museum within the Kate Marmion Gallery, which was named after the collector’s late daughter.

Selections from the collection will remain on view until January 2021. Artists represented include Julian Onderdonk, Melvin Warren, Porfirio Salinas and many others, including many artists who lived in or painted Texas subject matter.

“Janey Briscoe Marmion’s collection includes scenes of bluebonnets, limestone cliffs along the Guadalupe River and the wildness of Texas landscape, quintessential images that without a doubt convey Texas. The collection reflects not only her love of Texas and Western art, but also her commitment to supporting the Briscoe,” says Michael Duchemin, president and CEO of the museum. “Sharing this collection, a beautiful reflection of Texas curated by someone with a deep love of our state, is a true honor and a fitting tribute to someone who has left a lasting impact on the museum.”
