Gentry Night July 13 at Arvest Ball Park
A Gentry Community Night has been set for July 13 at Arvest Ballpark. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals will play the Springfield Cardinals, with game time set at 7:05 p.m. A pregame ceremony will honor Gentry officials, volunteers, community members and the Gentry Pride 11U softball team. A community member will throw out the first pitch. Tickets purchased in advance of the game are $8, with half of the proceeds going to the Gentry Pride 11U softball team to help the team with expenses of going to the Softball World Series. Tickets purchased at the ballpark will be full price and will not benefit the Gentry team. Advance tickets for individuals or groups are available from the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, 212 E. Boozman mobile office coming to Gravette
U.S. Sen. John Boozman’s Benton County mobile office will be set up from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday, June 22, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, 1870 Limekiln Spur, in Gravette. The public is invited to come visit with Boozman’s staff during this walk-in event. Staff members will be available to help with any problems you may have involving any federal agency and listen to your input about legislative issues. Open house scheduled
An open house at the new Gentry Police Station on East Third Street is set from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, June 23. A forum for Gentry businesses is set from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
NWA camp planned
A century-old spiritual tradition will continue in the learning center of Gravette Holiness Bible School from June 28 through July 3. Evangelist Noel Scott will be the speaker. Scott is a veteran evangelist of many years. He has spoken in Gravette many times. He will share pulpit responsibilities with Chad Snider. Snider and his wife, Aimee, will sing. Two main services are planned daily at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The 10:30 a.m. children’s services will be held daily under the direction of Barbara Uhles, beginning June 29. Youth will meet at the same time under the direction of Chad Snider. The first main service of the camp will be at 7:30 p.m. June 28. The public is invited to attend the services. Vacation Bible School begins June 26
Vacation Bible School will be held at Mason Valley Baptist Church, halfway between Highfill and Vaughn on Arkansas 12, June 26 through July 1 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The VBS will be for children, ages 4 and older. Gravette Vacation Bible school begins June 26
Vacation Bible School will be held from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. each day June 26-30 at the First Christian Church in Gravette, 301 First Ave., N.E., for children entering pre-K through those who are completing the fifth grade. The First Christian Church, United Methodist Church and Gravette Church of Christ will combine to sponsor the VBS. Theme is “The Laws of the Jungle: The Ten Commandments.” A light dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. for children, parents and volunteers.
Men’s breakfast slated
First Baptist Church of Highfill will hold a men’s fellowship breakfast on the first Saturday of each quarter at 8 a.m. All adult and youth men are welcome. For information, call 479-233-0242.
Gravette book signing set
BJ Tassin, a Bella Vista author, will hold a book signing from 1 to 4 p.m. July 8 at the Gravette Public Library, 119 Main St., S.E. Refreshments will be served. Tassin’s book, “Bona-Fide,” is set in the late 1960s. The story is told from the perspective of a 10-yearold girl, Sassy, who lives deep in the Ozark woods with her family. When their mother becomes bedfast, Sassy and her siblings, 11, 6 and 2, go off on foot in search of their father despite the fact they don’t know his name or where he might be. Their search leads them to the mountainside community of Whisper Ridge, where a host of colorful townsfolk do their best to help.
Summer reading underway in Gentry
Gentry Public Library is holding its summer reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” from 1 to 3 p.m. each Wednesday through July 27. The program includes themed guests, games and activities, and a story time followed by a movie and popcorn. The June 22 theme is “Animals from Around the World.” Participants will receive a time sheet to record their time spent reading, and every child completing the time sheet will be invited to a special party with awards and certificates at the conclusion of the summer program. Summer reading underway in Gravette
The Gravette Public Library at 119 Main St., S.E., is holding its summer reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” each week. Sessions focus on a different sport or athletic activity and all sessions are not on the same day of the week. The Monday, July 8, session, on swimming, will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Youngsters will meet first at the library, then go to the city pool.
Summer reading in Decatur continues
The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur is holding its summer reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday in June. The program is open to children, ages 5-9. The Iva Jane Peek Public Library is located at 121 N. Main St., at the four-way stop sign in Decatur. Sulphur Springs Library announces summer hours
New summer hours at the Sulphur Springs Public Library are 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. These hours are in coordination with the “Seamless Summer” lunch program held in the same building complex.
Museum Flea Market
The Gravette Historical Museum will hold a flea market from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 2, at the museum, 503 Charlotte St., S.E., in Gravette. Persons will be able to buy and sell all day (anything except firearms). There is no charge for booth space but sellers are asked to bring their own table, tent and chairs. Free shoe distribution set
Samaritan’s Feet, in cooperation with local United Methodist Churches from Gravette, Sulphur Springs and Bella Vista, will host a shoe distribution event from 10 a.m. to noon July 30 at the Gravette United Methodist Church located on the corner of 2nd Street and Akron. Samaritan’s Feet is a nonprofit organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of children locally and around the world with a gift of free new socks and shoes for back to school. All school-age children in the Gravette School District are invited to sign up and attend this event. They may stop by the Gravette Public Library, 119 Main St., S.E., to get their registration form (child’s shoe size must be provided). Forms were to be returned to the library by June 15. Those in the Sulphur Springs community who would like their children to take part, or know of a family that would benefit from this, please see SSUMC members at Sulphur Days on June 25 at the City Park to register the children.
