Gravette gets grant to purchase ladder truck for fire department
LITTLE ROCK — Governor Asa Hutchinson, AEDC executive director Mike Preston, AEDC vice president of operations Amy Fecher and Rural Services director Alex Johnston presented $261,512.35 to 27 rural communities on Thursday, Oct. 13. The communities were selected for Fiscal Year 2017 Cycle I funding through the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Program.
In attendance were representatives receiving an Arkansas Rural Community Development grant on behalf of Gentry in Benton County. Gentry received a grant for $15,000.00 to install a walking trail within the Flint Creek Nature Center Trailhead (already built).
The Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services works in partnership with the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to select the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Programs recipients. Incorporated cities and towns and unincorporated communities in rural areas of less than 3,000 in population are eligible to apply for assistance through the mayor or county judge’s office.

The grant awards were distributed Oct. 13 at an awards ceremony held in the Governor’s Reception Room at the Arkansas State Capitol.
In attendance were representatives receiving an Arkansas Rural Services Block Grant award on behalf of Gravette in Benton County. The city of Gravette is receiving $75,000 to purchase a ladder truck.
The Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Division of Rural Services works in partnership with the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to select the Rural Services Block Grant recipients. The grant program is funded through HUD’s Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program and is administered for the State and Rural Services through a partnership with the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Grants Division. Incorporated cities and towns and unincorporated communities in rural areas of less than 3,000 in population and that are 51 percent or above on the lowto-moderate income scale are eligible to apply for assistance through the mayor or county judge’s office.
